Hot Mix Fridays (August 1st, 2014) - A Nice Slice of the 90's...Vol 6
So two weeks away from the 1990s didn’t give me, like, a
greater understanding of the time period’s musical contributions (really) but
it did give me time to think about more and more songs from that span of time
that I would want to include on one of these mixes.
This week’s is a little eclectic—not to mean the others
aren’t, but there is quite a wide variety of all that the decade had to offer
as far as genres, one hit wonders, songs you may have forgotten about, songs
you may have never even heard, etc. Also, did you ever notice that "The World I Know" and "Iris" are VERY similar? I forgot all about that....UNTIL NOW.
Also, just a heads up—my Dropbox account is, like, totally
full and I really don’t want to pay to use that service, you know? So for a
while anyway, these will be coming courtesy of my Mediafire account that I
stopped using in 2010 or 2011 maybe. I am astounded that I remembered the login
information for it. I could go through and delete a ton of things from the
Dropbox file, but one of the things that bugs me the most about blogs in
general is that when you use a search engine like the Hype Machine, and it
pulls up entries from a million years ago, and the blog is still up, but the
mp3s are long gone. I’ve deleted some from 2013, but I really hate to go
through and do that.
Because I mean I know so many people read the last year’s
worth of shit on this site.
Also, my summer of unemployment may be coming to an end. It
technically already has because I work (temporarily) in a bookstore right now.
I started a week ago, which is dope as fuck because I used to work in a
bookstore six years ago and it was literally the best job I’ve ever had in my
adult life. So I’m still trying to maintain this blog and my other duties (the
Southern Minnesota Scene), but I also have some possible opportunities for
full-time work here maybe. Maybe? I’m not sure. It’s happening fast—like these
things that could work out—and it’s really nice after two months of dead ends.
But it’s also a little overwhelming right now, you know?
These hot mixes started out as a thing for me to occupy my
time this summer while I was trying not to go crazy from looking for a new job.
Since the summer is kind of winding down here in August, I think there will
probably only be a few more of these, for now, anyway. So please enjoy them
while you can and tuck your whole summer in.
Also, PS—for the cover art up there, remember when the Ninja
Turtles started a band and put out a cassette at Pizza Hut? Yeah that shit was
so tight. I saw their “concert tour” when I was in the 2nd grade I
think. Anyway, I had a lot of good suggestions given to me of things to use for
cover art this week—it was really elaborate trying to erase the “coming out of
our shells” text and replacing it on this one—so I will try to incorporate some
of the things people Facebooked to me before the summer ends.
