Spaceghostpurrp released a 58 song mixtape, so you should go listen to it right now

Just a young ass ni**a not givin’ a fuck
‘Cuz if I ever did, I’d be wifin’ her up.
My heart real black—I don’t trust a bitch
I hate this fuckin’ world, ya’ll can suck my dick…

An incredible opening stanza, taken from the track “Mystical Maze,” from the murky, mysterious, unnerving rapper Spaceghostpurrp—who now claims to be going only by “Purrp.”

“Mystical Maze” served as the opening track to his 4AD debut LP, 2012’s Mysterious Phonk, a collection of tracks originally pulled from his various mixtapes, cleaned up a little with additional remixing and remastering. It’s also a track that shows up a little over a half hour into the staggering 58 Blunts of Purrpa brand new compilation mixtape released via Datpiff over the weekend.

There’s a reason it’s called 58 Blunts. And that’s because it’s 58 tracks deep. That’s right. THERE ARE 58 SONGS ON THIS COLLECTION, and clocking in at, like, three and a half hours, there’s really no way for me to accurately review this, so really, what I just wanted to do here was make you aware that this exists, and that you should go download it IMMEDIATELY.

(Purrp commending me on my recognition of his tweeting abilities.)

Purrp is, by all accounts, an “acquired” taste. The stark, claustrophobic, occasionally spooky, always unsettling beats that are found in almost every track is certainly not for everyone. Whether intentional or not, there is an underlying sense of dread in every song—both supplied by the beats, as well as in Purpp’s lyrics and in his delivery, as well as that of his Raider Klan associates. All of these are well documented facts from my review of the Raider Klan's Halloween themed release from last year.

Serving as not so much a "best of," but more as an "introduction" to Purrp, pulling material from his previously released mixtapes, as well as from tracks where is a featured guest, like Juicy J's "Deez Bitches Rollin'," Purrp himself took to twitter to tell his 96k followers that the intended listener of 58 Blunts is a new fan, not those that have been down since "day 1" as he put it.

The whole 58 song collection deserves your attention, whether you are familiar with Purrp’s canon or not, but the highlights include (obviously) the aforementioned "Mystical Maze," "Black Money World," the brilliantly titled double shots of "Suck a Dick (2011)" AND "Suck a Dick (2012)" sequenced back to back, of course, "Alize Music," the synth-heavy wobbles of"Filthy Fucking Trill," and the short Portishead-sampling "Legend of The East."

"This is some different type of laid back shit," the product description for 58 Blunts on Datpiff reads. "Not the average everyday shit you hear often. The quality is mostly lo-fi and real underground...I mean honestly. This tape is on some playa/trippy/dark trap/get high shit." Purrp also includes instructions, or "rules" one should follow before attempting to listen to this: 1. Get Ya Weed, 2. Get Ya Pills, 3. Get Ya Lean, and 4. Get Ya Coke, or whatever you need to get yo high...

And whoever wrote that is right. This truly is a different type of laid back shit. Lyrically clever, and with his lo-fi production aesthetics, Purrp can keep casual listeners at an arm's length because of how dense his music can be. So take whatever substances you need to, or tackle this stone cold sober, because Spaceghostpurrp is a fascinating presence in underground internet rap, and 58 Blunts only cements that fact.
